Spronken Orthopedie officially opens the first Amputee Care Center

PRESS RELEASE

Spronken Orthopedie officially opens the first Amputee Care Center (ACC), a unique concept in Belgium and the Netherlands aimed at improving the quality of life for patients with amputations.

Amputation of a limb and its replacement by an external prosthesis requires specialized and integrated care and follow-up with attention to the individual situation of each patient.

From her many years of experience as a prosthetist, Spronken wants to work together with other healthcare experts in a multidisciplinary and holistic way, to provide a wider and improved service with a better quality of life for the patient as the ultimate goal. Starting from the patient's point of view, the vision of the Amputee Care Centre is to cooperate in a multidisciplinary way with surgeons, rehabilitation doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, general practitioners, nurses, nutritionists and sports coaches.

The unique treatment program offered by the ACC looks at the patient in his or her totality, provides multidisciplinary care tailored to his or her needs, offers access to the latest innovative techniques and works with a scientifically based approach in order to achieve the best end result for the prosthetic user, both the newly amputated patient and the existing prosthetic user.

Spronken believes that total care for prosthesis wearers can break down barriers, push boundaries, fuel change and contribute to creating an equal future for amputee patients.

The official opening of the first Amputee Care Centre, by Mayor Wim Dries, will take place on March the 2nd in Genk.

It will be a dynamic day, with demonstrations , speakers, ambassador prosthesis wearers, para-olympic athletes, athletes, high-tech innovations such as bionic hand and foot prostheses and more.

Open for Second Opinions

Besides customized care for new amputees, people who have had a prosthesis for some time are also welcome at the ACC.

The ACC offers advice for existing prosthesis wearers with questions or who want to optimize their prosthesis use.

Walking again in 7 weeks after amputation

The prosthetists at the ACC start counseling the patient even before surgery. They assist the surgical and nursing team with care in hospital and at home. Once the stump is healed, a full prosthesis can be quickly fitted and made at the Amputee Care Centre, thanks to the specialized prosthetic workshop annex . Then the rehabilitation process begins together with the patient's rehabilitation doctor and physiotherapist. Most people walk completely independently after 7 weeks.

New leg prosthesis in one day

At the ACC, it is possible to fit and make a complete leg prosthesis in one day, in one visit.

Care at home

Thanks to our mobile workshop, we can also treat patients and fit them with a prosthesis at home

Innovative high-tech prostheses

The ACC makes prostheses for young and old, for people with diabetes to Olympic athletes. Spronken invested in a 3D printing lab to make innovative customized arm and leg prostheses. For the latest technology in bionic feet and hands, they collaborate with local and international manufacturers of high-tech prosthetic parts.

Scientifically supported

Through science-based gait and function analyses, the ACC provides professional advice to improve the use of the arm or leg prosthesis.

Advice can range from prosthesis-technical adjustments to psychosocial support, sports coaching and nutritional advice.

International appeal

Genk is centrally located on the border triangle. Spronken is a recognised supplier to mutual health organizations and health insurers in Belgium and the Netherlands, but also has an international reputation beyond the borders of the BeNeLux.

Spronken works with numerous amputation surgeons and rehabilitation centers.

ACC in Brussels

An Amputee Care Centre will also open this year in Brussels. Spronken will collaborate there, among others, with Lieven Maesschalk's Move to Cure, known for their work with elite athletes.

The opening in Brussels is scheduled around summer.
